01. La soleá de Heldeke (soleá) La soleá es víscera flamenca y estas pequeñas ideas por soleá quieren acercarse a esa expresión visceral de la guitarra flamenca que debe tener este palo flamenco. El título es un homenaje al teatro-bar Heldeke, en el tuvo lugar la actuación grabada para este álbum en vivo, así como muchos otros eventos, conciertos, talleres y actividades flamencas que siempre acogen con enorme generosidad. Con gratitud y afecto, esta humilde soleá es “la soleá de Heldeke”. ---ENG--- ‘Soleá’ style is a visceral expression of Flamenco. These small ideas ‘por soleá’ aim to get closer to that visceral expression of Flamenco guitar that must occur in this ‘palo’. 02. Variaciones de taranta (taranta) y Pikas (tema por bulerías) Estamos ante dos temas unidos por una misma tonalidad (la de taranta) e interpretados uno tras otro. La primera parte son variaciones por taranta, un palo caracterizado por su profundidad expresiva y cuya tonalidad en la guitarra resulta en unos colores a medio camino entre lo enigmático y lo trágico. Es por ello un maravilloso vehículo armónico para expresar música flamenca, de hecho, probablemente se trate de la tonalidad favorita del que suscribe. Esta predilección es, de hecho, el motivo de que el tema por bulerías “Pikas” fuera compuesto por taranta. Este tema fue compuesto para una de las actuaciones de la bailaora estonia Kalli Pikas durante el espectáculo “Metamorfoosid”, actualmente programado en el Teatro Vanemuine de Tartu (Estonia). ---ENG--- Two different themes joined into one thanks to the fact that they share one same key (‘taranta’ modality). The first part are variations in ‘taranta’ Flamenco style, which is characterized by a very deep expressivity. Its tonality results in colors that stand half-way between the enigmatic and the tragic. For this very reason, it becomes a marvellous harmonic tool to express Flamenco music. It is probably the favourite Flamenco guitar key of the writer of these lines. This predilection is actually the reason why the second theme ‘Pikas’ was composed in the tonality of ‘taranta’, despite being a composition ‘por bulerías’. 03. ¡Ay, minero! (minera) Este tema consiste en dos arreglos de un mismo cante tradicional por taranta llevado al tono de minera y montado instrumentalmente. La guitarra dará su entrada por minera y a continuación cantará una primera letra sustituyendo al cantaor. Al cerrar esa primera letra, la guitarra hará una falseta esperando la segunda letra, tras la cual la letra y la guitarra cierran al unísono. Cante flamenco expresado a través de la voz de la guitarra, de forma que el acompañamiento y el cante queden fundidos en una sola voz instrumental. ---ENG--- This track consists of two arrangements of one same traditional ‘cante por taranta’. It has been arranged as an instrumental piece in the modality of ‘minera’. The guitar opens the number playing ‘por minera’ and it will later on sing the first ‘letra’ in substitution of the singer. Closing that first ‘letra’, the guitar will play its ‘falseta’ and wait for the second ‘letra’, after which both guitar and singing will close together. 04. Aires de farruca y tango (farruca) La mayoría de falsetas contenidas en esta farruca nacieron para acompañar al baile en este palo, mientras que el resto de partes surgieron de un trabajo de exploración re-armonizando las cadencias características de la farruca y su tono menor. Se juega con diversos tempos para formar contrastes expresivos, desde partes completamente ‘ad libitum’ hasta partes de ritmo vigoroso y constante. En ciertas partes la rítmica y la tonalidad menor remiten (al menos para el autor) a sonoridades del tango argentino, de ahí que el título de la pieza se refiera a una farruca con “aires de tango”. ---ENG--- Most of the ‘falsetas’ (variations) included in this farruca were born to accompany the dance of this ‘palo’, and many others were the result of exploring and re-harmonizing the most characteristic cadences of farruca style and its minor key. Apart from that, different tempos are played with in order to create expressive contrasts between parts that are ‘ad libitum’ and parts that have a vigorous and constant beat. 05. Morá, morá (bulería por soleá) Diego del Morao es uno de los grandes tocaores de guitarra flamenca de la actualidad, embajador ilustre del sonido de Jerez. El título de esta bulería por soleá quiere, humildemente, rendir tributo a su maravilloso compás, expresividad y soniquete. Estas falsetas quieren expresar “por medio” y “con soniquete” un carácter flamenco, a veces delicado, a veces agresivo, pero siempre a compás. Hacen uso preferente de melodías y armonías descendentes que quieren desembocar hacia la tónica “por medio” y hacia “el 10” del compás con gracia, garbo y flamencura. ---ENG--- Diego del Morao is one of the greatest maestros of Flamenco guitar nowadays, being an excellent ambassador of the guitar sound of Jerez tradition. The title of this bulería por soleá humbly pays a tribute to his wonderful groove (‘compás’), expression and ‘soniquete’. The ‘falsetas’ included in this track want to express ‘por medio’ and ‘con soniquete’ in a Flamenco way, delicate at some moments, and aggressive in some others, but always ‘a compás’. 06. Distancia (siguiriya) La siguiriya es, al igual que decíamos de la soleá, puro sentimiento visceral flamenco. La siguiriya suele llevar desgarro y angustia, y debe llevarlos con sinceridad. El sentimiento impostado o falseado no tiene cabida aquí. Estas falsetas por siguiriya, compuestas “por arriba” quieren transmitir esos mismos sentimientos con esa misma sinceridad. ---ENG--- Same as we previously stated about soleá, siguiriya is pure and visceral Flamenco feeling. Siguiriya style usually entails pain and anguish, and they must be honest feelings. There is no place for fake nor pretended feelings in it. Bahía de Riga (alegrías) En esta ocasión el cierre del concierto se produjo por alegrías, queriendo cerrar la velada con este tema dedicado a los compañeros flamencos de otro país báltico: Letonia. El tema quiere re-armonizar ligeramente el marcaje por alegrías y quiere expresar con fuerza flamenca y con gracia rítmica melodías y armonías que se mueve en el tono de mi mayor, tan común en las alegrías flamencas, explorando las posibilidades de la guitarra en esta tonalidad mayor y queriendo transmitir (sí, de nuevo) flamencura, pero esta vez lejos de la cadencia andaluza. ---ENG--- This concert was closed in style, namely with this composition dedicated to our Flamenco colleagues in other Baltic country: Latvia. These variations slightly re-harmonize the traditional strumming ‘por alegrías’ and aim to express with Flamenco strength and with rhythmical grace melodies and harmonies in E major key - which is enormously common in alegrías style.
